During a routine screening mammogram, a 2 centimeter breast cancer was found to be invading her chest wall. She was living a healthy lifestyle, had no significant family history nor risk factors, and no symptoms. She had even done thousands of clinical breast exams as a gynecologist, screening other women for breast cancer. Through a whole-food, plant predominant diet, daily physical activity, prioritizing sleep, minimizing stress, and a strong social network, she was able to make her way through an aggressive treatment. Her breast cancer required a bilateral mastectomy, 16 rounds of chemotherapy, removal of her ovaries, and several reconstructive surgeries.

She credits her ability to thrive through this journey to her strong faith, family, her medical team, and the power of lifestyle as medicine.
